Recycle, Rejoice, and Re-edits

Happy Earth Day fellow readers and ROW80's! After spending the last week working on my garden and backyard, I feel like I've contributed to the spirit that is Earth Day (I even bought some herbs to plant that came in their own biodegradable pots!).

It's a dreary rainy day, so I'm working out of my favorite coffee shop today. One, it's a great place to work and two, there is a local author doing a book signing later this afternoon, so I thought I'd stop by and offer my support.

On the writing front, I got some great writing done these last few days and today, I have the whole day scheduled to write all day (or at the very least, stare at my laptop screen). PARADIGM is coming along and have all the key scenes figured out (yay!) and I am slowly working on my other WIP, which at this point I still don't know if it'll be YA or not.

Now, this is the part I've been dreading to write about for awhile, but it needs to be said... I had some editing issues with PARADOX that has come to my attention, so I've spend the last week having it re-edited. The typos weren't TOO bad, but it was enough for me to get it looked at again. I anticipate the changes to be finished today/tomorrow and then I will upload the new version later this week. It's a hard thing to admit to, but I'd hate for readers to have a bad experience, due to my lack of professionalism. I'll discuss more on this on Wednesday's post.

I hope everyone has a great Sunday and for those folks impacted by all the rain, stay dry!

  1. Happy Earth Day to you too!

Editing is one of those things that will get better as you go. (It's like cleaning up a kitchen, after a while a professional chef just develops habits that either keep things clean in the first place or makes clean up easier and faster as you go.)

    1. Thanks! And you are totally right w/ the chef analogy...my hubby is a chef and is particular about keeping the kitchen clean ("clean as you go", he always says)...which is the same thing as me "editing as I go", but as I've learned, sometimes it's not enough and I have to get a better editor! :)

    1. Oh, no...it already went live! But better to re-upload after catching to mistakes. Fortunately, my readers have been supportive and kind and haven't said anything, but I still want to make the changes!

  3. Ack. I know the edits on Paradox have to sting a little bit, considering it's already out there. Just chalk it up to lessons learned. I guarantee you'll check the next ms with more veracity. Enjoy your writing time :)

    1. I does sting...especially since my fans have been so great and haven't complained...makes is all the more frustrating! But at least I caught the errors w/in a month of going live and I have to remember that ebooks are forever and be thankful that I haven't gone to print yet!

  4. I think it's great that you are bothering to fix the typos - I see so many that don't bother. Great to hear that everything is going so well for you. I hope you have another great week ahead.

    1. Thanks Jody and yes, many don't bother, but I don't want to be added to that list! Have a great week!

  5. Good for you for addressing it! I respect that so much. Most readers are forgiving, but I know how you feel. My cheeks burned when I had found a few errors in Her Dark Baron. With this latest book, I read and read until my eyes crossed...lol. Because I'm with you, I'm striving to be professional - and prefessionals submit and sell clean (as in typos/grammar errors) books.

Enjoy your writing this week, Claudia.

    1. LOL Even now, with having it re-edited, I'm having problems going back and making the changes because I've read it so many times I don't "see" the errors! Thankfully, this time, I went with someone w/ a good eye :) It was mostly typos and comma placement for me, but still...
